Frequently asked questions

We know you've probably got questions, so we have answer some of the most common below.
What is preventative Mental Health?
Preventative mental health focuses on identifying potential mental health issues, behaviours or patterns early on, to allow for proactive behaviour to effectively manage mental health. It aims to reduce the stressors of life that lead to mental health issues and, by strengthening coping mechanisms, individuals are able to experience an increased level of mental wellbeing and enjoy increased learning, creativity and productivity.
What happens to my information?
Voice of Health collects Information, only by fair and lawful means, where it is reasonable and practicable to do so. We will never collect your personal information unless we have your consent to do so. Voice of Health stores all of your information securely as we respect your right to privacy, and we are committed to comply with encryption, confidentiality and security standards, to ensure communication is made in a secure environment and infrastructure.

We take all necessary steps to ensure that personal information is protected from misuse, loss and interference. If you have any further concerns or questions, feel free to contact us at info@voiceofhealth.com.au
What different mental health challenges can Voice of Health provide support for?
Voice of Health aims to address all forms of lived experience and challenges - some of those including relationships, self-esteem, grief and loss, addiction, anxiety, depression, stress and many more!

Although we aim to provide support for as many challenges as possible, please note that Voice of Health is NOT a crisis service and we do not provide crisis support.
Do I have to pay to message an Active Listener?
No! You do not have to pay to talk with an Active Listener, and downloading and using the app is free too. We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to receive genuine support without any barriers restricting their opportunities to manage their mental well-being.
Are Active Listeners licensed professionals or psychologists?
All of our Active Listeners are volunteers that come from different walks of life! You may find that some Active Listeners are trained professionals or psychologists, but on the Voice of Health app, that is not their role.

Our Active Listeners are trained to provide you with peer support and empathise with your lived experience, to help you self-manage and monitor your mental health.

*Please note Voice of Health volunteers are not here to provide professional advice and cannot diagnose you.
Is Voice of Health a crisis line?
No. Voice of Health is not a crisis line. If an Active Listener has reason to believe that you are experiencing a crisis, they will refer you to a crisis line or service.

If you are currently in a life threatening situation or are seeking professional advice that you intend to rely on - please use these resources to get immediate help.

As Voice of Health is not a crisis service, the Active Listener who has identified that you are at risk or in a crisis will follow protocols and refer you to seek crisis support.

You will be provided with crisis hotlines or services that are available in your country, and we will encourage you to seek help.
What languages are available on the Voice of Health app?
Although many of our Active Listeners can speak other languages, the Voice of Health app currently operates in English. It's one of our most frequently asked questions and so we are working on expanding our language options for the app and our courses, so stay tuned!

If there is a particular language that you would like the app available in then please send through your suggestion to info@voiceofhealth.com.au
Why the name Voice of Health?
The name ‘Voice of Health’ was based on the concept of giving everyone a voice to self-manage their own mental health, and is tied closely with our values of Active Listening, empathy, compassion and building trust.
What makes Voice of Health unique?
There are so many things! However, what separates us is that many other peer support platforms are difficult to access and often prevent people from seeking support for their mental health.

Some of the common barriers of other platforms include Affordability, Availability, Location, Ability, Culture and Convenience. Voice of Health is here to eliminate these barriers through a scalable solution that not only removes barriers for entry, but also compliments existing therapy, so that you always have someone there to listen to you.
What is Voice of Health's purpose?
Voice of Health provides a safe place where you can share with others, talk one-on-one with someone that understands you and can help you develop strategies to self-manage your own mental well-being.

Our preventative mental health solution offers greater convenience, accessibility, affordability, scalability and support while never letting go of the human element that cannot be replaced by technology. We want to provide equitable access to mental wellbeing support for everyone.

Voice of Health attends to the need for an effective preventative mental health solution in the Australian and global community. We value the importance of lived experience, empathy, power of perspective and self-managing your mental well-being.
